Spring 2010 Adult Sunday School Electives

New Classes Start March 7

David Fisher (Sanctuary)

Not by Might, Nor by Power…

The Scriptures proclaim that as individuals and as the church body, we will never reach our divine potential nor accomplish the work of the Kingdom of God through any kind of human strength, skill, or wisdom.  Rather, He has promised that we can be “endued” with the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit in our lives.  This class will examine Pentecostal perspectives on selected topics including prayer, revival, miraculous signs and wonders, the ministry of the Holy Spirit in the lives of believers and in the church, and other related topics.

Pastor Ed (DVJ Library)

Unit 1: Ephesians: Understanding God's Eternal Purposes
Through these studies, adults will be challenged to deepen both their belief in Christ and commitment to live a lifestyle that reflects that belief.

Unit 2: Commended By Christ
Adults will explore the qualities and actions that were commended by Christ, such as humility and generosity. They will also be challenged to live so they will be commended by Christ.

Pastor Mike (DVJ – Science Lab)

The Gospel of Luke

Of all the writers of the New Testament, Luke was the only Gentile, thus bringing a unique point of view to the life and ministry of Jesus Christ.  The compassion of Jesus towards “outsiders” of the day, including women, common people, children, racial minorities, and outcasts such as the sick, the lame, and the poor, runs as a dominant theme throughout his gospel account.  This study examines the Gospel of Luke’s clear portrayal of Jesus as the fully divine, fully human Savior of all people.

Ron Eaton (Closed area of Fellowship hall)

The Walk of Faith

Hebrews 11 states that without faith, it is impossible to please God.  Thus, it is essential to understand both what faith is as well as how Disciples of Christ can grow in faith in order to live a life that is victorious and pleasing to the Lord.  This study examines the topic of what faith is in its nature and action, revealing faith as the substance and foundation of our life, by looking at various examples of men and women of faith throughout the Bible.

Veronica McKay (DVJ 211)

Managing Your Moods (adult women)
Sometimes, our moods can get the best of us. They can even stand in the way of healthy communication with others. In this study we’ll tackle the garden-variety moods and emotions we deal with every day with down-to-earth illustrations to give you a chance to laugh and think, and dozens of thoughtful insights from Marilyn Meberg, Luci Swindoll, Barbara Johnson, Sheila Walsh, Thelma Wells, Patsy Clairmont, and Nicole Johnson – the "Women of Faith". Twelve weeks of Bible study enables you to search the Scriptures for God’s answers to controlling our emotions.
